here's my card
Gotham wouldn't be Gotham without a little spice on the holidays.

Or so the Joker thinks. It's hilarious, in fact, that anyone could ever think otherwise. Think about it, he'd say, why miss out on the fun simply because of the holidays? There's more people to surprise. More people to play jokes on.

And Joker was full of surprises. And jokes. And gifts.

Oh yes. Gifts for everyone.

The holiday decorations makes it so easy to leave surprises, too. Oh Gotham, when will you learn? Do you really think the presents under the enormous tree in one of the city's banks are empty? Do you think THE JOKER could have let an opportunity like that go?

Tick.

Tock.

Tick.

Tock.

It's not on Christmas when the bomb goes off, though. No, no. That'd be a little boring. Predictable, even, and well the Joker is not boring. Not predictable. Not him. Never him.

Tick.

Tock.

It's bright and early when the bomb goes off. Causing a good enough distraction to allow for an entrance elsewhere. In another bank, because if everyone is busy with one then they'll leave the others alone.

Tick.

Tock.

Such pretty wrapping paper. Such pretty decorations.

BOOM

Merry Christmas, Gotham. Enjoy the joker cards that explode out of the box as well. Enjoy your surprise, even if it's definitely not the last one you'll be getting. There's other holidays, after all. And Joker will be around for all of them.

Oh Halloween is fun.

Think about it. All the costumes. All the masks, and the make up, and the freaks supposedly getting their day. Such a wonderful holiday. Fun and even considered family friendly.

I plan on trick-or-treating. Not for candy -- sometimes I can't stand the stuff, no. Have you ever had too much of it? Have you ever had enough where you feel...crazy? It's fun, oh yes, but I do just fine without it. I don't need the treats.

At least. Well. Not those kind.

I'm a simple kind of man. Very simple. I'm more of a trick person. I have plenty of those up my sleeves.

And in my pockets.

And in my coat...

They're simple. They're fun.

But you'll never guess them. Oh no. I mean... They're a surprise. You wouldn't want to ruin a SURPRISE, would you? You have to wait til Halloween.

The trick-or-treating will be to DIE for.

((intended to be pre-TDK. Not the 'event' we see in the beginning, but a bit before that.))

If you were to see this man running in the streets, you would think he's a freak. You can already hear how others probably treat him, how they tease him; over his clothes, over his hair, over his teeth.

His scars.

Under all that make-up you can see them, twisting his face into a sadistic smile that your blood runs cold as he looks at you. But as he does so, as he stares and tilts his head curiously, you know it's not really the scars that freeze you right on the spot. No, it's not that. The scars are too superficial. Too obvious. No, it's not that.

It's his eyes.

It's that look in his eyes. )

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in. - American Beauty

It's beautiful.

Really. It is.

The way the world unravels with just the smallest nudge. The way that something that looks so BIG, and strong, and durable, can just...collapse. Just. like. that. In a minute, in two, it doesn't matter. It always happens, don't you know? Nothing lasts. There's always something that ties people back. There's always something to threaten them with, or to lure in front of their eyes. Everyone has a price. Everyone has a button to be pressed.

Well. Almost everyone.

I don't. How boring, isn't it? To have that. How...restrictive. People have those pesky little rules, and morals - all those boring little details that just weigh you down.

It's beautiful, to discover those little details. The little pebbles that can keep others grounded, or that others can use to bring you down. Money, people? It's always something.

And you know, those things that people say they'll never give up... Those things that hold people back, or that makes them a better person, yadda yadda? They never last forever. There's always a price. There's always a bigger offer; a bigger temptation.

And when people cross that line

when people give in

when it turns the world, their world, into chaos--

It's. beautiful.
